2005-ben Los Angelesben ő alapította meg a Five Finger Death Punch zenekart. Nem egy meglévő rendszerbe szállt be, hanem ő rakta össze a sajátját. A név mögött is ott van a gondolkodásmódja: harcművészeti inspirációk, kung-fu filmek világa és a „Kill Bill” hangulata. Ez nem csak hangzás, hanem egyfajta életfelfogás is.
Az első album nem stúdióluxusban készült. Egy szobában vették fel, egy asztalon, minimális technikával. A pénzt a korábbi dizájner munkájából tette bele. Itt nem szerencséről beszélünk, hanem döntésekről.
Te mit tennél a saját „kevésből”, ha nem kifogásként, hanem építőanyagként néznél rá?
A történet másik része a fegyelem. Már 9 évesen judozni kezdett, ma 4. danos fekete öves mester. Brazil jiu-jitsuban is fekete öves, amit 2021-ben kapott meg Royler Gracie-től. Versenyzett, győzött, veszített, és visszament újra edzeni. Emellett wing chun-t is tanult, és az amerikai hadsereg közelharc-oktatói képzését is elvégezte.
Ez nem arról szól, hogy „kemény ember”. Inkább arról, hogy a kitartás nála nem hangulat kérdése.
Te hányszor hagytál abba valamit csak azért, mert épp nehéz volt?
Közben sosem szakadt el a gyökereitől. Gyakran hangsúlyozza, hogy a magyar háttér, a fegyelem és a munkához való viszony volt az, ami alapot adott neki. Hazai koncerteken is megszólal magyarul, mintha mindig visszacsatolná magát oda, ahonnan indult.
Ez is egy kérdés neked: te mennyire tartod életben azt, ahonnan jöttél, miközben haladsz előre?
És mindeközben nem csak zenész maradt. Társtulajdonosa a Professional Grappling Federation nevű jiu-jitsu ligának is, ahol már nem csak résztvevő, hanem építő is.

A történet lényege nem az, hogy ő „különleges”. Hanem az, hogy minden ponton döntött: elindul-e, folytatja-e, és képes-e új szintre vinni azt, amit elkezdett.

He started with one suitcase and conquered the world within a few years!
You are reading the story of a man who came from Szentendre and moved to the United States at the age of 17 in 1995 with a single suitcase. Báthory Zoltán didn’t step onto a ready-made path. He walked into an unknown world where nothing was guaranteed except one thing: he wanted to change his life.
And this is where it’s worth stopping for a moment: what would you do if today you decided to leave everything behind and start over?
In 2005, in Los Angeles, he founded Five Finger Death Punch. He didn’t join an existing system, he built his own. Even the band’s name reflects his mindset: martial arts inspiration, the world of kung-fu movies, and the atmosphere of “Kill Bill.” It’s not just a sound. It’s a way of seeing life.
The first album wasn’t created in some luxury studio. It was recorded in a room, on a table, with minimal equipment. The money came from his previous work as a designer. This isn’t a story about luck. It’s a story about decisions.
What would you do with your own “limited resources” if you stopped seeing them as excuses and started seeing them as building materials?
Another part of the story is discipline. He started practicing judo at the age of 9 and today he is a 4th-degree black belt master. He also earned a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from Royler Gracie in 2021. He competed, won, lost, and went back to train again. He also studied Wing Chun and completed close-combat instructor training for the U.S. military.

At the same time, he never disconnected from his roots. He often says that his Hungarian background, discipline, and attitude toward work gave him the foundation he needed. At concerts in Hungary, he still speaks to the audience in Hungarian, almost as if reconnecting with the place where everything began.
And that raises another question for you: how much of where you came from do you carry with you while moving forward?
